About Me

3D Printing

Hello, my name is Riley. I started to get interested in 3D printing when I began seeing it at a lot of technology fairs and other places. I then took a summer camp on 3D printing to learn and be able to better understand what the 3D printer could do. After this wonderful expierience, I continued to see 3D printing at places such as The Museam of Science and at a technology fair at Salem High School. I ended up getting really interested in 3D printers, so interested that that same year I got one for Christmas and some basic filament. I got an Ender 3 Pro which is not the most advanced printer, but it is a very good printer because it can print really tall things. My first filament was a pack of 4 different colors, red, yellow, green, and blue. These colors are starter colors because they are not as expensive as some other filament is, but they still print very well. Since they are cheap, this filament is good for test runs. Later on, as I got better and better with being able to use my machine, I was able to get cooler filaments because I was not afraid of messing up while using them. Overall, 3D printing is amazing and I am so glad that I got interested in it.

Other Interests

I am a gymnast at Nashua School of Gymnastics (NSG). I have been going there for several years. I had not gotten hurt in my whole gymnastics career until I broke the growth plate in my thumb. The only thing is that I did not get this injury doing gymnastics. I hurt my thumb playing floor hockey in gym class. While breaking a thumb does not seem that bad, it was a season ending injury for me. I was casted up for 6 weeks and not allowed to return to any impact skills for another month after I got my cast off. During this whole time, school was difficult for me. I broke my thumb on my right hand and that is the hand that I write with. Then, one day, my mother found a design for a pen online that could help me write. I immediatly set up my 3D printer so that it could print it for me. This tool helped me so much and it made it so that I had one thing less to worry about. Now I am just hoping to get better and be able to return to gymnastics shortly. Gymnastics is a cool part of my life and I love being able to flip around.

In addition to doing gymnastics, I am also a soccer player. I like running a lot so soccer suits me. Soccer is really fun for me, especially the running part. I was always a forward and played on offense until my coach decided to try me on defense. I was doing really well at defense so that became my new permanent position. I did miss playing on offense, but it was a great experience being able to play defense. Now I am a player where you put me somewhere and I will play there. I love all of the positions especially when I get to run my heart out and track people down or run up the field and score. Soccer is also a big part of my life, like gymnastics. I find all of my sports really fun and enjoy doing them.

Not only do I do gymnatics and soccer, I also play two instruments. Through my school program I have been able to learn how to play the flute. My mother has also gotten me piano lessons outside of school. I love playing both the piano and the flute. If anyone asked me to choose one as my favorite I would not be able to choose. My musical learnings coincide with my two instruments making it so that once I learn one thing in my music of one instrument I can play it in the music of the other instrument. To conclude, I love being able to make music.

My favorite subject in school has to be math. I absolutely love numbers; they just make sense in my head. All different forms of math just seem to click. Numbers are probably the best way to get me to understand something. I love to look at things in a mathematical way.
